Who are BAFTA Award winners?

The British Academy of Cinema and Television Arts announced their nominations on Sunday, with host Richard E. Grant presiding over the ceremony in London. With 14 total nominations, Germany’s All Quiet on the Western Front adaption had the most going into the evening. The complete list of 2023 BAFTA Award winners is below.

The British Academy Film Awards, BAFTA’s annual film awards event, started since 1949. Meanwhile, the British Academy Television Awards, their annual television awards ceremony, had its launch since 1955. The British Academy Gaming Awards, their third event, debuted in 2004.

A mask by American artist Mitzi Cunliffe became the BAFTA award trophy. The inaugural “BAFTA award” was given to Sir Charles Chaplin on his Academy Fellowship that year, following the Guild’s merger with the British Film Academy to form the Society of Film and Television Arts, later the British Academy of Film and Television Arts.

David Lean, Alexander Korda, Roger Manvell, Laurence Olivier, Emeric Pressburger, Michael Powell, Michael Balcon, Carol Reed, and other significant players in the British cinema industry created the British Film Academy, or BAFTA, in 1947.

Founder and first chairman was David Lean. Then, the Best Years of Our Life, Odd Man Out, and The World Is Wealthy were the greatest names at the inaugural Film Awards presentation in May 1949.

In October 1954, the Guild of Television Producers and Directors held its inaugural awards event after being founded in 1953. The British Film Academy was united with it in 1958 to create the Society of Cinema and Television Arts. The Duke of Edinburgh served as the meeting’s chairman, and it was held at Buckingham Palace.
