His agency issued a statement saying that Song Duk Ho escaped from the army exemption through improper ways and that he would want to apologise to those he disappointed.

According to Sports Chosun, a South Korean news outlet, the actor took an indefinite break from acting after an investigation into his medical history was started on January 31.

According to reports, Song is suspected of using illicit broker services to falsify some of his medical records in order to receive exemptions from South Korea’s conscription law. This typically conscripts all eligible South Korean men aged 30 and under for two years of military service.

The investigation was as part of a larger investigation into military duty avoidance by South Korean celebrities. They were allegedly hiring middlemen to falsify or modify their health records. Celebrities like national volleyball player Jo Jae-sung and K-pop idol and VIXX vocalist Ravi are also the subject of investigations.

According to a report from The Korea Herald, Song Duk Ho escaped from the army by hiring a broker to help him demonstrate false symptoms of epilepsy during a military examination and then submit an allegedly fraudulent report of his diagnosis. That was according to the joint investigation team that the Military Manpower Administration and prosecution have set up.

According to Sports Chosun, Song’s label, Bistus Entertainment, later issued an official response to the reports, stating that the actor had stepped down from filming a drama and will continue to be involved in “additional investigations” into the matter. Bistus Entertainment also told The Korea Herald that the actor obtained his military exemption through “improper” means.

Who is Song Duk Ho and his film projects

The acting company Bistus Entertainment represents Song Deok Ho from South Korea. He made his screen debut in 2018’s “Burning.” After that, he has since made numerous other appearances on both large and small screens.

His roles in plays including Tracer, Moonshine, Hotel del Luna, Juvenile Justice, and Taxi Driver have earned him recognition. Moreover, he made appearances in the films What Happened to Mr. Cha?, Burning, Secret Zoo, and Sunset in My Hometown.

On the first season of the Netflix original D.P., Song had a supporting role as Lee Jae-chang. Later, the public has revealed that he will return for the second season. His future participation in D.P. season 2 is yet inofficial. He had roles before D.P. in popular K-dramas such Hotel Del Luna, Juvenile Justice, Taxi Driver, and others.

D.P. stands for Deserter Pursuit, basing on Kim Bo-well-known tong’s webcomic D.P. Dog’s Day. It follows a military faction with the same name. The unit contends with a pervasive undercurrent of bullying and harassment of newcomers to the military’s ranks. Meanwhile, Soldier An Jun-ho (played by Snowdrop’s Jung Hae-in) is moved to it.

Netflix revealed last month that Season 2 of D.P. will make its platform debut in the third quarter of 2023. Only a few months after the show’s September 2021 release, the streaming service announced in December 2021 that it has been renewed for a second season.

The information that Song Duk Ho escaped from the army might seriously impact the acting career of the Korean actor.
