Pep Guardiola: ‘It’s frustrating because Haaland didn’t score 3’

The former Barcelona captain teased Haaland after the 4-0 win over Southampton in the 10th round of the Premier League on the evening of October 8 (Hanoi time).

“It’s frustrating that Erling Haaland hasn’t scored three goals. Thus, the petition to ban him from the field will not be effective,” Pep Guardiola said after the game.

Haaland has just scored his 7th consecutive match in the Premier League 2022/23, contributing to Man City’s 4-0 win over Southampton.

Haaland hit the 20-goal mark in the 2022/23 season.

Haaland’s goal against Southampton was made after 65 minutes. After Joao Cancelo’s cross from the left, Haaland ran cleverly to pick the right spot to put the ball into the penalty area. 2 Southampton players rushed in but still could not stop this striker from scoring.

“Haaland again scored an excellent goal. He is our heavy weapon. I am very pleased,” added Man City’s head coach.

Besides, Pep also expressed satisfaction with the performance of the whole team: “Last season, we had many difficulties against Southampton. This season, things went much better. The defenders weren’t in good shape, but we created many chances and defended well. Man City had a good game.”

Unable to score more than 1 goal in the confrontation “The Saint”, but Haaland still goes down in history when becoming the second Man City player to have 10 consecutive matches to score for the home team. In the history of the Manchester club, only one other player has achieved the same feat as Haaland, that is Billy McAdams in 1957.
