Apple just added the iPhone 6 to its “vintage” list. According to Apple’s definition, a product is considered obsolete if it has been out of distribution for more than 5 years and less than 7 years. Even so, the company still supplies parts and repairs antique equipment during this time.

Previously, iPhone 6 Plus was put on the antique list in February. According to 9to5Mac , the reason iPhone 6 appeared on the list later is because Apple still sells this model in some countries after stopping production of iPhone 6 Plus. .

iPhone 6 and 6 Plus were introduced in September 2014, also the first time Apple launched an iPhone line with 2 different screen sizes. Both devices use A8 processor, 1 GB RAM, 8 MP rear camera.

This is the first iPhone line to support NFC for Apple Pay payment service. With many worthwhile upgrades, the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus are among the best-selling mobile phones of all time.

In 2019, Apple stopped updating software for iPhone 6 and 6 Plus when iOS 13 required iPhone 6s or later. However, Apple still updates security patches for devices running iOS 12, not only iPhone 6, 6 Plus but also iPhone 5s or the first iPad Air.

At the end of July, Apple added a number of devices to the antique list, including the 2016 MacBook Pro, the 9.7-inch iPad Pro, the 2015 iMac, and the 2016 12-inch MacBook.

If the discontinuation period exceeds 7 years, the above devices will be listed as “obsolete”, no longer receive any support from the manufacturer of any kind, including hardware repair and Software updates.
