Had to sell the apartment because the neighbor’s parrot was too noisy

“It never seems to stop talking, even late at night or on weekends. We can’t sleep,” Wu (Singapore) complained about the neighbor’s parrot.

Ms. Wu’s family was disturbed by the neighbor’s parrot.

Wu (45 years old) told Shin Min Daily that her family has been living comfortably in the apartment 620 Bedok Reservoir Road (Singapore) for 13 years.

But the peace has been disrupted since a year ago, when a new neighbor moved in and brought his pet parrot with him.

“It never seemed to stop talking, even late at night or on weekends. We couldn’t sleep,” Wu said, describing how the bird chirped continuously, the sound echoing through the apartment corridor.

At first, Wu held back and said nothing. But the fact that the neighbor brought the birdcage out into the hallway and whistled to it every morning made her angry.

“The neighbor moved the birdcage into the house after I complained, but the problem was not resolved,” Wu said.

As a person with insomnia, Wu is often woken in the middle of the night by the screams of the parrot. She said it felt like torture living in her own house.

The only solution to get out of this misery is that Wu has to sell his house and move somewhere else.

“I dread coming home to rest after a long busy day,” said Wu, who said her family will move out in February next year.

Many residents in the building also share the feeling of living near the noisy parrot. Fu (26), who lives on the same floor, says wearing earplugs while sleeping doesn’t stop the parrot’s sounds. Zhao, 50, said he didn’t have much trouble with the screaming bird.

This is not the first time residents in Singapore apartments have been disturbed by neighbors.

In May 2021, the pet-related noise incident at Block 61, Chai Chee Street was also controversial. In it, the man who kept 10 birds in the apartment caused complaints from neighbors.

One of the neighbors said it was unbearable for feathers and bird droppings to stain her window sill.

But the owner of the birds responded with a note: “If my birds are released, you are happy, but I am not.”

The man installed 9 air conditioners, causing the neighbor’s house to stagnate with water and mold.

Not long ago, a man living in a 4-room apartment on Compassvale Street was criticized by neighbors for installing 9 air conditioners. Huang’s (64-year-old) continuous running air conditioners caused the floors of the surrounding households to be stagnant, and the walls to be moldy.

“For the past few months, we have had to walk on the wet and cold floor. My wife has to clean the floor 3 times a day but can’t help it. The day before, I almost slipped because the floor was too slippery,” said Mr. Liu (57). age), who lives in the apartment above Huang, said.

In the end, Mr. Huang had to move house on September 17. He moved to a new place in Sengkang and said he would bring 8 air conditioners to install.
